Marshall J. Benbow, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Marshall Benbow is a board certified pediatrician who completed his formal education and has practiced general pediatrics exclusively at Southwest Children’s Center since 1981. His premedical education was completed at Texas A&M, class of 1976, Whoop!, medical education at UTMB Galveston in 1978, and pediatric residency at OU Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City in 1981.

His leisure activities include cooking (and therefore eating), golf, fishing, skiing, hunting, and most other things “outdoors”. He aspires to be a member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band but limited musical skills and sleeping in campus dorms will likely stymie that dream.

Tina H. Boylston, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Tina Boylston is a board certified pediatrician who joined Southwest Children’s Center in 2004. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1996. She received several accolades during her undergraduate education including Outstanding Student of the College of Science and Engineering. She received her medical degree from University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and pediatric residency training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

After completing her training, Dr. Boylston spent a year as a clinical instructor and flight doctor with the Department of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Texas Children’s Hospital before joining Southwest Children’s Center.

She is married to Hal Boylston and has one son, William. She enjoys gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

Shelly M. McNair, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Shelly McNair is a board certified pediatrician associated with Southwest Children’s Center since 1998. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Illinois in 1987. She attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine and completed residency training at Wilford Hall USAF Residency Program.

Dr. McNair spent her first year after residency as the Chief of Residents and then went on to become a Staff Pediatrician at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center. During her time at Wilford Hall, Dr. McNair was the Assistant Chief of the Pediatric Clinic, Chief of Adolescent Medicine, Director of Medical Student Education and Director of Chronic Ear Clinic, as well as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at USUHS Bethesda, Maryland. In 1998, Dr. McNair transitioned from Wilford Hall to join Southwest Children’s Center.

She is married with three children. She enjoys gourmet-cooking, reading; spending time with dear friends and watching her children become young adults.

Rose C. Cofer, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Rose Cofer is a board certified pediatrician working with Southwest Children’s Center since 1996. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Women’s University with a BS in physical therapy. After working one year as a physical therapist, Dr. Cofer went on to attend medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and completed her residency at Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. After completing her training, she volunteered as an attending physician for the Residents General Pediatric Clinic.

Dr. Cofer worked in private practice for several years in Ohio and Pennsylvania before returning to Texas and joining Southwest Children’s Center. She is married to Barry Cofer, MD and has three sons. They spend a lot of time in family and outside activities. She also enjoys reading and gardening.

austin-shannon
Shannon M. Austin, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Shannon M. Austin is a board certified pediatrician and joined Southwest Children’s Center in 2009. Dr. Austin was born and raised in Houston, TX. She moved to San Antonio to attend Trinity University for undergraduate school and has been here ever since. From college, she continued on to attend both medical school and residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

San Antonio has become home to Dr. Austin, her husband Scott, and two sons Chase and Grayson. Dr. Austin enjoys serving in her church and community, entertaining, cooking, baking, and painting, although most of her “free” time is happily spent chasing around her two little boys.

L. Patrick Finklea, Jr., M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. L. Patrick Finklea, Jr. is a 2002 graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, where he played division one soccer and received the Outstanding Departmental Award in Philosophy. He received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk and pediatric residency training at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. During this training, he was awarded the Children’s Health Advocate of the Year by the Medical Legal Assistance for Families and volunteered at Camp Camp for disabled children and Camp Independence for children with diabetes.

Dr. Finklea enjoys outdoor activities and participated in the Mid Atlantic Med WARs (Medical Wilderness Adventure Race) in 2007 and 2008, where he received 2nd place both years. In 2009, he served as director of the race. These days he and his wife, Lindsey Finklea, MD, stay busy running after their two children, Lillian and Stone. The family also enjoys trips to the beach, barbecues with the neighbors, and running.

Krista M. Vizuete, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Krista Vizuete joined Southwest Children’s Center in 2015. She grew up in Lubbock, Tx and earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from The University of Texas at Austin in 2008.  She received her medical degree from the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2012. During her time at the UTHSCSA, she served as a Mentor in Medicine Leader and spent time volunteering at the SAMM Shelter and Alpha Home. She then went on to complete her pediatric residency at the UTHSCSA Department of Pediatrics. During her residency in San Antonio, Dr. Vizuete was awarded the ‘Best First Year Resident’ by the faculty and co-residents and remained an active participant in her program throughout her training.

Dr. Vizuete and her husband, John Vizuete, MD, have made San Antonio their home.  Together, they enjoy traveling, food and wine, exercising, tennis and staying involved with their church community.  Most of their free time now though, is spent with their first son, Jack.

hogue-megan
Megan M. Hogue, M.D., F.A.A.P.

Dr. Megan Hogue is a board certified pediatrician associated with Southwest Children’s Center since 2015.  After graduating from Emory University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Anthropology and Human Biology, she went on to attend the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and received her Doctor of Medicine in 2009.  Dr. Hogue then completed her residency at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.  Immediately following residency, she joined a private practice in Dallas where she practiced for several years prior to returning to San Antonio.

Dr. Hogue is married to Grant Hogue, MD, and has a son, Henry.  When she is not working, Dr. Hogue enjoys playing in muddy puddles with her son and dogs, photography, cooking, and gardening.

Basaldua.Kelly.182120
Kelly M. Basaldua, M.D.,F.A.A.P.

Dr. Kelly Basaldua is a board certified pediatrician who joined Southwest Children's Center in 2016. She grew up in Arlington, Texas and earned her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from St. Mary's University in 2006. While at St. Mary's, she was a member of the Division II Women's Soccer Team and served as its team captain her junior year. Dr. Basaldua then received her medical degree from UT Health Science Center of San Antonio in 2010 and went on to complete her pediatric residency at the UTHSCSA Department of Pediatrics in 2013.

After completing her education and training, Dr. Basaldua spent time as a Pediatric Hospitalist and Sedationist at the Children's Hospital of San Antonio from 2013-2016. She also served as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics while at CHofSA and helped teach many pediatric residents.

Dr. Basaldua and her husband, Paul Basaldua, have been married since 2010. They have three beautiful children Julian, Raquel, and Marco. Dr. Basaldua is fluent in Spanish and welcomes patients from all over Texas.
